Universities are ranked in two separate pools by data type: point-level police records within 3 km of campus, and area-level official counts where no point-level data is published. The two pools use different methodologies and are never mixed. Area-level scores use a fixed absolute scale per data source (red = above twice that source's typical area rate), so they are not comparable across sources or countries. How scores work →

Ranked by weighted incidents per 100,000 residents across the whole administrative area (local government area in Australia, census metropolitan area in Canada, police agency jurisdiction in the US, district / Landkreis in Germany, commune in France, ward/city in Tokyo, metropolitan province in South Korea). This is a separate statistical pool — its scores are not comparable with point-level scores.
